Handwoven Cotton Shoulder Bag with Geometric Woven Panel & Tassels, Handspun in South India, Choice of Colours

£26.00

Our handwoven shoulder bags are made in South India by The Loknath Weavers Industrial Co-operative Society Ltd, a handloom co-operative founded in 1955. The society became a model for many other weavers’ co-operatives across India, and today it continues to support skilled spinners, weavers and dyers and their families.

Each bag begins with cotton that is spun by hand into yarn. Hand spinning gives the thread a natural, slightly uneven character, which creates the soft texture and gentle irregularities you’ll see in the finished cloth, something machine-spun yarn simply can’t reproduce.

The yarn is then woven on traditional wooden handlooms, some of which have been in use for generations. The front of each bag features a colourful geometric panel woven into the cloth, finished with tassels at the lower corners. A long strap makes it easy to wear over the shoulder or across the body, ideal for everyday use, whether for shopping, books or carrying the essentials.

Available in a choice of colours:

  • Dusky rose with orange panel

  • Dusky rose with lime green and yellow panel

  • Dusky rose with green diamond panel

  • Dusky rose with mustard yellow panel

  • Maroon with white and grey panel

  • Maroon with green and white panel

  • Blue with yellow panel

At Naturally Crafted, our bags, shawls and stoles are woven on handlooms by artisans whose techniques have been passed down through generations. As each bag is handmade, every piece is individual, with small variations that reflect the work of the spinner and weaver.
