About lokta paper
Lokta paper is made by hand in Nepal from the inner bark of the lokta shrub (a species of Daphne), which grows in the Himalayan forests. The stems are cut and the roots left in place, so the plant grows back. The bark is boiled, beaten into a pulp and spread over a frame in a water bath, then dried in the sun to form sheets of paper. The paper is strong and naturally resistant to insects, and has been used in Nepal for centuries for documents and Buddhist texts.
As each frame is handmade, the texture and the placement of the flowers will vary from the one shown in the photos. Dimensions and weight are approximate.
